- Overseas applicants:
- Submit an application to a Republic of China overseas mission.
- The overseas mission will forward your application to the National Development Council for eligibility review.
- After qualifying, return to the overseas mission for visa review.
- Applicants in Taiwan:
- If you entered Taiwan visa-free or hold a non-extendable visitor visa (such as general social visit, tourism, business visa), you need to apply 10 working days before your stay period expires.
- The application process is as follows:
- Submit an application to the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its offices in Taiwan.
- The National Development Council reviews eligibility.
- After qualifying, return to the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or local offices for visa review.
- If you are unable to obtain a visa before your stay period expires, you must leave the country according to regulations.
How long does the application take, and how do I check the progress?
From the date of application, it takes 14-20 working days. If there are holidays or additional documents required, the review time will be extended. To ensure your rights are not affected, it is recommended that you plan early and apply in advance. To confirm the application progress, please call the accepting unit where you submitted your application.
Obtaining the Visa
When the visa is approved, your passport will include visa-related certification. If you apply for a visa outside Taiwan, issuance and review will be handled at the overseas mission, which means you must apply for and receive the visa overseas and cannot apply overseas and then collect it in Taiwan. Similarly, if you apply for a visa within Taiwan, you must also collect it in Taiwan.
How long can I stay in Taiwan? How do I extend my stay?
The visa validity is 90 days and can be extended once through the National Immigration Agency, with a maximum total stay of 180 days per visit.
Is there a mechanism for renewal after the maximum 180-day stay?
Since this is a new visa, it is not yet possible to provide a longer stay period until the law is amended.
